Wow! Well of course a LOT has happened. Since February, Doug continued to hang in there and his stamina gradually increased. He definately needs his sleep still and unless God heals him fully his body will never be the same. But you know what? With God's help, WE CAN HANDLE IT! I am so glad to have my husband back and Eric is feeling the same about his dad. One of the largest hurdles to overcome is the mental part of a permanent colostomy. It is a frequent challenge, but his attitude is really good (most of the time! :)) He said last night, "imagine having a big adhesive bandaid on all of the time." Can't do it can you? Me either. I am so proud of him.
So he is back to work 50 plus hours per week. He is still there now. We've found that the easiest way for him to deal with the bag is to wear bib overalls. He's finding there is a stigma associated with bib overalls. Another "thing" to deal with. Just another opportunity to let his light shine!
When we left Mayo he was 136 lbs. Now he's at 182! I KNOW! He's backing off some now. Doug has never really had a weight issue so this is new for him. Good thing he's wearing bibs. :)
Eric graduated in May and to say he is glad to be finished with school would be an understatement! We had a really nice graduation reception for him and he was blessed with enough cash to purchase a new Dell laptop. His gift from us was a GOPro Camera so he is set to get going on videos, etc. Music, film, editing are his primary interests. We will continue to pray and see where God leads him!
After taking the month of June "off" (well he helped at home) and putting in applications, etc. Eric had a phone interview then an in person interview and was hired by Target. His first day was June 29th and he is on the "Flow Team." He goes in at 6AM and so far is working almost full time hours. He likes his job and his hours and come Friday when he gets his first paycheck he is going to be IN LOVE with his job! And after Mom sets him up with parameters.....insurance, gas and phone bill are now his. Ahhhh life. It happens. :)
