Another "We won't forget this day" day

So we had a GREAT nap this afternoon and went to his Doctor's appointment early which has been to our advantage and I think they like it too.

We met with Dr Divine and his nurse Julie.  If all Doctors were as kind and professional and compassionate and willing to listen as the 2 we've met here, it seems like there would be less mistakes and complications in the medical field.  Ok, rant over and I'm climbing down from my soapbox.  Thank you for listening!

He came in and said "The MRI shows you have chronic infection and it needs to come out of there."  He needs a permanent colostomy bag.  He said there is really no other choice.   Well, that's what we came for, a second opinion from the best.  He said we could have it done here or go back home and have it done.   After out experience (s) in NWA........we've decided to have it done here at Mayo.  Just to qualify, not everything in NWA has been bad ok?  Just some.....(pretty major) stuff.

They gave us a choice of Dec 26th or Dec 30.   We went with Dec 26th.  So we will come back up here on Christmas day and surgery will be at Rochester Methodist Hospital which is connected to Mayo.  Mayo is all just one big medical city.  Pretty cool one at that!

I asked if there was a place for me to stay in the room and she said they are all private rooms and there is a chair/bed.  But she recommended me not because of germs in the hospital.  I told her I stayed him with the entire time on the previous hospital stays due to all the quirky things that happen with Doug.

We went through all the other hospital stuff.  They have a pain management team that works with you and she assured us they would take care of him.  They will put pain patches on him before surgery and give him the loopy medicine and then give him a shot (like an epidural) and she said that will take care of the major pain for 24-48 hours after surgery.  The hospital stay will be about 4 days and then they would like us to stay local for 2 more just to make sure there are no issues.  And I have the week after Christmas off so, it's all good!   :)

Tomorrow we have to come back for blood work in the morning, then stoma placement at 9 then visit the business office to get all the pre-auth stuff started for surgery.

Then we are going home!   So we will be home for Christmas, well at least part of the day.  And I get to go back to work for a few more days.   Which makes me happy too.  And Doug gets to get in a few more days of hyperbaric chamber treatment.  It's a win win!

Prayers for safe travel would be appreciated.  And as you can see from all the stuff above, if you would pray we would appreciate it.

Thank you so much

Jan, Doug and Eric
