Doug has reached all of the qualifications for discharge. *TMI Alert* (Although if you've ever had surgery, it's pretty much standard.) Pass gas/Stool, walk 4-6 times per day, pee and switch to oral meds. Soooo, there is a possibility he may be discharged tomorrow. He still has the iv in (just in case) and a drain tube coming out of his stomach that is supposed to be pulled tomorrow.
Dr Devine gets there around 7 am so I've missed him every time so far. I get there around 9 am and usually don't leave until 11 to 11:30 pm. Then I go unwind, etc at the hotel. Which is why you see me post at 2:30 am!! He is the surgeon and in charge of all the Fellows and Residents that come in. This is definitely a teaching hospital!
Doug has reached all of these milestones. However, he is still so very weak and after each walk takes a short nap. After a shower, he is REALLY pooped. But he's been eating pretty well, Belgian waffle for breakfast, alfredo for lunch and meatloaf and mashed potatoes for supper. Mind you he doesn't eat all of it, but he gives it the ol' college try. I tell the food service to make small portions.
After he is discharged we will stay in the hotel for 2 days. I am not sure if Dr Devine will want to see him before we leave. If so, hopefully we can get an early morning appointment. He told Doug this morning he usually sees his patients 10 days out. Hopefully we won't need to come back. The weather so far has been great. REALLY REALLY cold, the high was 2 degrees today but the sun was shining.
So there is still so many unknowns. It would be nice to be discharged before the end of the year. But if it is not to be, it's not to be. We spent last New Year's in the hospital in NWA. Maybe we can start 2015 on a positive! :)
Again, God specializes in timing so we are placing it in HIS more than capable hands. But prayers sure don't hurt. Thank you for your continued prayers. And if you could lift Eric up. He is not feeling well and is more than ready for us to be home. And his phone crapped out on him. He has a new one coming but, teenager without a phone, not good!
Thank you again,
Doug, Jan and Eric
